KUALA LUMPUR 17 July - United States Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) believes its detention order on world major glove maker, Top Glove Corporation Berhad will not significantly affect the country's total import.
The agency in a statement said however, it is aware of high ever demand for disposable rubber gloves amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“CBP will continue to allow the entry of gloves produced by all other manufacturers,” it said.
On 15 July, CBP issued a ‘Withhold Release Order’ on the Malaysian glove maker’s subsidiaries namely Top Glove Sdn. Bhd. and TG Medical Sdn. Bhd. and the firm confirmed it yesterday.
International Labor Organization indicators revealed the evidence of forced labor, including debt bondage, excessive overtime, retention of identification documents, as well as abusive working and living conditions.

In the firm’s virtual press conference held yesterday’s evening, its Executive Chairman, Lim Wee Chai estimated that the detention order is due to the issues of passport retention and recruitment fees.
The firm is currently reaching out to CBP and in talk with the appointed consultant regarding the matter.
Top Glove believed the matter can be solved within two weeks.
As of yesterday, the Top Glove shares closed -9.6% at 19.70 ringgit, falling 11% in Singapore. - DagangNews.com
