KUCHING Oct 26 - Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) will export liquified natural gas (LNG) cylinders to Kalimantan next February. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced this during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Special Convention at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday.

He revealed that during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, West Kalimantan requested Sarawak to export cooking oil, rice and sugar to the province. Due to the good relationship between the two territories, Sarawak has set up an office at Pontianak, he added.

“We are now exporting electricity and we will sell LNG gas to them. If everything goes well, come February, we will have our LNG, known as Petros LNG (sent to Kalimantan),” said Abang Johari, as reported by DayakDaily.com.

He said Petros will use red cylinder containers while the ones produced by Petronas are green in colour. Apart from Pontianak, Sarawak also has a trade office in Brunei. Among the projects Sarawak and Brunei are collaborating on is starting a cattle feedlot.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari who is also the PBB president said Sarawak will also collaborate with a South Korean company to produce optical lenses.

“We want to invest in lenses as Sarawak produces silica sand. We will produce lenses including optical lenses and lenses for binoculars because our sand is of high quality.

“Now, we export (silica sand) to Japan. Japan produces lenses and later we buy the lenses from Japan. Aren’t we stupid? We will work with Korea, to produce lenses. Korean (companies) want to come, so we won’t be exporting our silica sand anymore,” said Abang Johari.

Abang Johari stressed that foreign investors are willing to come to Sarawak because of the state’s political stability. “We take care of our politics. Let Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) become the platform which PBB supports to maintain state stability,” said Abang Johari. — DagangNews.com
