KUALA LUMPUR 2 April - AEON CO. (M) BHD. (AEON Malaysia) received the Best Taxpayer Award 2020 by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) for the second consecutive year at the 25th Tax Day ceremony recently.

The prestigious recognition which listed AEON Malaysia among one of the eight best taxpayers of 2020 was announced by the Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz during the event on 1 March 2021.

AEON Malaysia Chairman Datuk Iskandar Sarudin said the award recognises the retail’s role as a responsible taxpayer and as a major contributor to the government’s tax revenue.

“This recognition showed that AEON Malaysia is committed to play a positive role, contributing in the form of taxes paid in order to help stabilise the country’s economy. We believe a truly leading corporate group that anticipates such changes in social structures and markets reflects shifts in customers’ lifestyles, values, and needs.

“These will further enhance consumers’ experience, capturing brand loyalty, product recognition, and securing revenues that would essentially enable us to conduct our responsibility as a diligent taxpayer,” he said after receiving the award from the Finance Minister.

Datuk Iskandar hopes the recognition will motivate AEON Malaysia’s staff to work harder for greater success and propel the nation to greater heights.

“For two years in a row, this award is truly an honour to our organisation. We will continue to offer the best products and services to our customers and consumers, while contributing to the country’s socio-economic development” he added.

During the ceremony, Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul in his speech said that the IRB has been pivotal in assisting the Government in financing welfare initiatives and aids through efficient tax collection and effective responsibilities entrusted by the government.

“This success proves that despite the COVID-19 situation, there are still industries that are not affected and in fact made bigger profit from the effects of the pandemic,” he said.

For this year, IRB sets a target of RM143.9 billion. Last year, the board has collected RM123.092 billions of tax collection, exceeding 1.14% than the revised target of RM121.7 billion. - DagangNews.com
