KUALA LUMPUR 21 Ogos - To date, there are 71 use cases under the 5G Demonstration Project (5GDP) that had been successfully carried out.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said, the use cases are expected to contribute to Malaysia’s 5G scene towards the commercial roll-out soon.

“MCMC recognised and reinforced the need for Malaysia to digitally transform in the new normal with wider coverage and better quality paving the way to the commercial roll-out of 5G.

“MCMC is working together with relevant agencies and communications service providers, through the National Digital Infrastructure Lab (NDIL), to develop a comprehensive digital framework to address the social and economic challenges, especially in post-COVID-19.

“The NDIL is setting the national aspiration of a comprehensive connectivity and exploring fixed-mobile convergence to achieve the widest coverage,” said MCMC in its Monthly Update for July 2020 statement.

Meantime, PETRONAS aims to utilise 5G network from its onshore control centre, reducing hazard risks at offshore facilities while at the same time, supporting pace and sustainability.

With that, it embarks Malaysia’s first oil and gas 5G under 5GDP.

“Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, the minister of MCMC recently visited Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) in Kuala Terengganu.

“INSTEP’s 5G project is in line with PETRONAS’ aspiration towards automation and digital implementation,” said MCMC.

In July 2020, the communications and multimedia (C&M) market capitalisation posted RM132.87 billion in representing 7.8% of total Bursa Malaysia’s market capitalisation; the telecommunications sector is led by Maxis and Digi at 2.43% and 1.94% respectively.

The market capitalisation for the telecommunications sector was valued at RM125.50 billion followed by the broadcasting sector at RM4.56 billion while the postal and courier sector recorded a healthy growth of 43% since April 2020 valued at RM2.81 billion in June 2020.

“The postal and courier sector had a surge in demand for parcel deliveries from the new normal of working from home that resulted in the domestic courier service traffic increasing by 60% in second quarter 2020 (Q2 2020) compared with first quarter 2020 (Q1 2020),” added MCMC. - DagangNews.com
