KUALA LUMPUR 28 July - Malaysia, regarded as one of the best in managing the COVID-19 impact, will share its experience and efforts to Japanese and ASEAN counterparts, both in curbing the spread of the virus and to put a balance onto the Malaysian economy.
Among these would include the PENJANA economic stimulus plan and Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) imposed by Malaysia that saw the opening of economic activities to keep the economy resilient, thus protecting the livelihood and well-being of Malaysians.
It will be shared through the Economic Ministers of ASEAN Member States virtual meeting with the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan tomorrow, led by Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
MITI in a statement noted, the meeting is set to take place to discuss ASEAN-Japan action plan in response to COVID-19 pursuant to the “ASEAN-Japan Joint Statement on Initiatives on Economic Resilience Action in Response to Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) Outbreak” issued on 22 April 2020.
“The meeting will be an avenue for Malaysia through the ASEAN platform to forge closer collaboration and partnership with Japan and other ASEAN member states, in a synergised and unified manner to battle against COVID-19 - portraying strong solidarity, vision and leadership among ASEAN and Japan Economic Ministers,” said MITI.
The virtual meeting will be hosted by Vietnam.
Meantime, Mohamed Azmin willl be accompanied by Deputy Minister of MITI, Datuk Lim Ban Hong.
They will be sharing the Malaysian government experience in combating the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 and ensuring the protection of lives and livelihoods of Malaysians.
At the end of the meeting, the ministers are expected to adopt the “ASEAN-Japan Economic Resilience Action Plan” which would be an important mechanism to turn the collaborative decisions.
