MDEC appoints Director of Legal to bolster its ‘Reinvent’ efforts

 

 

KUALA LUMPUR 16 March - The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has appointed Shanti Ramu as its Director of Legal department, in its continuing efforts to augment its ‘Reinvent’ agenda. 

 

Marking yet another significant appointment under MDEC’s ‘Reinvent’ mission – the latest hire is another step forward for MDEC towards becoming a high performing and high-impact organisation. 

 

The agency has begun cascading changes throughout the organisation to ensure optimal performance from its new structure.   

"I am proud to be able to serve the country with MDEC and confident that my extensive experience will complement and the experienced legal department at MDEC.

 

"I look forward to contributing to MDEC’s ‘Reinvent’ mission and closely support the management’s efforts on best-in-class compliance and corporate governance,” said Shanti in a statement today.

Shanti will manage and oversee the agency’s legal affairs and drive organisational compliance by providing legal guidance, in-depth analysis and recommending solutions. 

 

She will also develop, lead and implement best-in-class practices for the legal department while providing strategic and commercial advice in all areas. 

 

Chairman of MDEC, Datuk Dr. Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff said, Shanti is an experienced and reputable professional who will play a key role in charting our course towards industry-leading compliance and governance standards with the utmost radical transparency that we seek in upholding the agency’s integrity. 

 

"I am happy we have yet another vital cog in our relentless drive towards Malaysia 5.0, realising a society deeply integrated with technology, governed by inclusive and equitable ‘eco-vironmental’ principles and practices,” said him.

 

Shanti brings 27 years of experience, having previously served 13 years in Munchy Food Industries Sdn Bhd’s legal and secretarial affairs department. She was attached to SMH Rail Sdn Bhd prior to her appointment at MDEC.   

 

Meanwhile, Chief Executive of MDEC, Surina Shukri said, in a world of legalese complexities, her deep experience and extensive knowledge in legal affairs as well as, track record in both the private and public sector will enable MDEC to possess holistic legal capabilities covering all areas within MDEC. 

 

"Shanti fits like a glove for this challenge and I look forward to having her expert counsel as we navigate through our way towards achieving the goals of the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDigital)," she explained.

 

The digital economy is expected to continue its significant contribution to the country this year, based on an estimated 19.1 percent contribution to the GDP in 2019 by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, following a forecast of 6.7 percent economic growth for 2021 by the World Bank. 

 

With the launch of MyDigital, the expected contributions from the digital economy towards the GDP is an estimated 22.6 percent by 2025. - DagangNews.com
