KUALA LUMPUR 2 July - Global hotel and accommodations online booking platform, Airbnb sees an increase in Malaysia’s domestic travel by almost 190% month-on-month.
Airbnb booking data shows 93% of the total bookings in the past 30 days made on the platform were on domestic destinations.
Those destinations include Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru.
Airbnb in a statement said, the increase follows closely with the announcement of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and lifting of travel restrictions around the country.
“The situation has seen attention turning towards domestic tourism as a key driver for recovery in the sector.
“While the travel industry has been significantly disrupted by Covid-19, internal Airbnb data shows positive signs that travel is beginning to bounce back, led by trends that will shape travel in the weeks and months to come,” said Airbnb.
On the related matter, Malaysia government currently highly encourages the citizens to travel domestically.
