Perodua envisions 3rd national car project

KUALA LUMPUR 3 July - Malaysia's favourite compact vehicles company, Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn. Bhd. (Perodua) sets its target to initiate the third national car project. 

Perodua is currently in the talk with the government which could be beneficial to the project. 

President and chief executive officer of Perodua, Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad remarked the company has the capacity to be appointed as the project manufacturer. 

“Perodua has given a proposal to the government on its vendor system,” said him according to The Star.

He mentioned that after a signing ceremony between the Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), Perodua, the Perodua Suppliers Association and Perodua Dealers Association. 

Meanwhile, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has confirmed that the third national car project is still ongoing. 

Mohamed Azmin who was also present at the event mentioned, "despite having a new government, the project is still on.”

The former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed last February said that he was open to work on a national car project with foreign companies. Prior to that, he referred to the project of Proton and Perodua with Japan previously. 

Following, the engineering service company, DreamEdge was expected to present the third national car prototype in March this year. 

To date, Perodua recorded the highest sales of its vehicles last month due to the exemption of sales tax. 

More than 21,000 of Perodua cars were sold last month which marks the highest sale in 2020 so far. - DagangNews.com
