Top jobs on the rise in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR 3 Feb. - The year of 2020 saw unprecedented changes in the workforce.

As employees started working remotely, the need for individuals with digital and soft skills rose, according to LinkedIn. 

The employment-oriented online service saw that employers had shifted from hiring based on credentials to hiring based on skills held. 

Based on a report by LinkedIn titled 'Jobs on the Rise', it found there are 11 categories of most in-demand and emerging jobs in Malaysia as listed below:

Head of Asia, Talent and Learning Solutions at LinkedIn, Frank Koo said, the list of jobs on the rise demonstrates that there are still opportunities for job seekers with a range of skills and experience. 

“By adopting a lifelong learning mindset, and being open to picking up new skills through various courses — for example, courses on digital skills or soft skills — workers can prepare themselves to take up these emerging roles,” said him in a statement today. 

Notably, one common and overarching trend that LinkedIn has noticed amongst almost all the roles on the list is that almost all may be conducted remotely. 

As a result, workers who are equipped with digital skills, even at a basic level, will have an edge in finding employment opportunities within these fields, the report further noted.  

According to the report findings, COVID-19 accelerated the adoption of digital platforms in the region whereby 1 in 3 of digital service consumers in Southeast Asia were new to the service. 

“We expect that the demand for workers with tech skills will remain, from specialised engineers, to cyber security talent and data analysts,” it said. 

Meantime, the rapid adoption of technology has allowed companies to collect large amounts of data, and with it, the potential to unlock new solutions and products.

This has led to the demand in roles pertaining to processing, analysing and storing data, as per the report. 

Another key trend observed by LinkedIn was the shift online throughout Southeast Asia has brought about an evolution in how brands communication with their consumers. 

LinkedIn’s data shows a 48% increase in companies posting on the platform in June 2020, compared to a year earlier.

Apart from that, in 2020, while online travel and transport services suffered, e-commerce, online media and food delivery services surged, the report said.

“Globally, remote job opportunities on LinkedIn have increased four times since June. 

“Professionals with digital skill sets will find themselves at an advantage in seeking employment opportunities within these fields,” it added.  - DagangNews.com
