KUALA LUMPUR 12 Oct – Hess Malaysia announced that it had completed the fabrication of its Mercury Removal Unit (MRU) facilities for the North Malay Basin (NMB) Integrated Gas Development Project safely and on schedule.

The MRU facilities will help unlock the full potential of the NMB asset and enable the safe production of gas with higher mercury levels from existing wells and those in the future phases of field development.

Mercury management is crucial to protect the environment, prevent damage to downstream equipment and meet health and safety standards.

The MRU facilities will be installed and integrated into the existing Bergading Central Processing Platform (CPP) at the Bergading Complex in NMB, located about 300 kilometers offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

The MRU facilities are capable of processing high mercury hydrocarbon gas with 100% redundancy. The company is currently in Phase 2 of the NMB field development. The drilling program for Phase 3 is expected to commence next year with first gas planned in the first quarter of 2022.

“Amid COVID-19, our priority has been to protect our workforce and community and maintain business continuity. Despite industry headwinds caused by the pandemic, this milestone reaffirms our commitment to developing Malaysia’s natural gas resources and safeguarding the security of gas supply.

"I wish to attribute this success to our strong partnerships with Petronas and key contractors,” said Zhiyong Zhao, Vice President of Hess Asia.

To mark the milestone, a sail away ceremony was held at the MMHE West Yard in Pasir Gudang, Johor attended by senior management from Hess, PETRONAS Carigali, PETRONAS - Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE).

Hess Malaysia awarded the MRU related pressure vessels fabrication contract to Dialog Systems. The contract for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) went to MMHE while the Transportation and Installation (T&I) contract was awarded to Sapura Offshore.

NMB is a long-life natural gas asset that comprises ten discovered natural gas fields. Hess Malaysia, a subsidiary of Hess Corporation, holds a 50% interest in the NMB project and is the operator while Petronas Carigali has the remaining interest.

Hess Corporation is a leading global energy company engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas.

In Malaysia, Hess has had a presence that dates back more than two decades and is a significant investor in the development of the country’s oil and natural gas resources.

Hess is one of Malaysia’s largest producers supplying approximately 25 percent of Peninsular Malaysia’s natural gas needs. - DagangNews.com
